A crosswind is a wind which features a component perpendicular to the direction of motion. This effect has a serios impact on the aerodynamics of vehicles or aircraft. Travelling non-parallel to the wind’s direction gives birth to a crosswind vector that boosts the apparent force on the object.

While being very useful in many circumstances such as sailing a boat or steering a traction kite, crosswind can pose a serious danger by displacing the path of vehicles sideways.
