Video: Lucian Bute vs. Jean Paul Mendy, IBF world title boxing

“Champions for Romania” gala took place at Romexpo in Bucharest on Saturday July 9,2011. Before Bute’s match there have been several boxing clashes involving Viorel Simion and Bogdan Dinu who claimed their victories. Gala culminated with the very publicized Bute-Mendy match for the world title of the IBF category. Famous Michael Buffer introduced the two boxers. The ring referee is Marlon Wright from Canada. Jean Paul Mendy climbed into the ring on AC / DC’s song “Highway to Hell”. Lucian Bute made his ring appearance on U2’s “Where the streets have no name”. Anthems of Canada, France and Romania are sung and the match is about to start.
Round 1: The first round was pretty balanced, the two boxer studying each other. Lucian performed a few nice punches making the audience stand up.
Round 2: Lucian got a few bruises but he managed to come out well from a bad situation. However Bute dominated the end of the second round his right-hand punch reaching its target.
Round 3: Mendy started to become more agressive but he played also incorrect and was warned by the referee. Lucian managed a left uppercut and made the audience raise again.
Round 4: Fatal round for Mendy. None expected what was about to come. The French boxer seemed dangerous and gave the feeling that dominates the clash. However a surprising left hand hit from Lucian Bute sends Mendy to the floor and game is over.
Romanian Lucian Bute, – the Super-Middleweight world champion – defended his belt for the eighth time by a KO win against Frenchman Jean Paul Mendy, – middleweight bronze medalist at the 1997 World Championship of Amateur Boxing in Budapest. Read more about Romexpo boxing events (ro-lang.)
