Former Puerto Rican boxer Hector Camacho was pronounced dead Saturday as he was disconnected from the life-support equipment, four days after being shot in the head, informs AFP.

“Camacho suffered a heart attack in the morning, we could not do anything for him and a few minutes later we took him off the respirator device. He will be examined by the coroner,” said Dr. Ernesto Torres, director of the medical center Rio Pedras.

Torres had announced on Thursday that former athletes, aged 50, was brain dead, a verdict accepted by his mother, Maria Matias, who nevertheless urged doctors to keep her son artificially alive just to allow his three children to see him one last time.
