China is the third country that sent its own astronauts into space back in 2003, after the U.S. and Russia.

On the other hand, the country has not been accepted as part of the International Space Station project, developed through the collaboration of 16 nations, most likely because of the U.S. objections.

The Asian nation is currently running an ambitious space program that aims at sending astronauts to the Moon and assembling a space station by 2020.
