At least 42 killed in Nigeria school attack

At least 42 people, mostly students, were killed in an armed attack on a highschool in Yobe State, in northeastern Nigeria on Saturday, said medical sourced cited by AFP. The assault was apparently carried out by gunmen claiming to be Islamists from the Boko Haram insurgent group.

“We received the bodies of 42 students and staff members of the public secondary school in Mamudo last night. Most of the victims have bullet wounds and burns,” Haliru Aliyu from Potiskum city general hospital told AFP.

“It was a bloody incident. People who went to the hospital and saw the dead bodies burst into tears. There were 42 corpses mostly belonging to the students. Some were disfigured, others had severe burns and bullet holes,” he said.
