David Beckham has plans to start a Miami franchise by creating the 22nd soccer team for Major League Soccer (MLS).

Beckham, who quit soccer world in May 2013, revealed his project on Wednesday, having admitted that he will set up a Miami franchise in “Major League Soccer”.

“I wish to build my own soccer,” said Beckham.

“I am convinced that Miami is ready for football, and this will be a succes. I knew there was a team 10 years ago that withdrew. I intend to make a personal team for me. We are very enthusiastic as Miami is a dynamic city with many passions. I am looking forward to investing more time here in Florida alongside my family.”

Don Garber, the Major League Soccer Commissioner made a statement about league’s 22nd franchise.
“I am thrilled to announce that David Beckham has exercised his option to purchase an MLS expansion team and we are so excited to he has selected Miami for his new club,” Garber announced. “David had lots of cities across the U.S. and Canada to choose from, he picked Miami because he believes in this city. It is perhaps one of the most diverse and international cities in the entire world and people here love this sport. Together, we have no doubt that this will be an very successful MLS team.”

David Beckham signed a agreement with Los Angeles Galaxy back in 2007, and a clause was added in his contract offering him the possibility to build a new team in MLS for $25 million.
