Russian President Vladimir Putin does not miss any opportunity to stand out. Just two days before the start of the 2014 Olympic Games at the Black Sea resort of Sochi, the Kremlin leader entered the cage of a leopard. This wasn’t the first adventure of its kind for Putin. (scroll down for VIDEO)

The latest action which was meant at cementing the image of tough Russian president, took place during a visit to the leopards’ breeding and rehabilitation center in the city of Sochi.

Putin stepped into the leopard cage where he fondled the feline. While turning out to be friendly to the President, the leopard seemed not to like his entourage as it attacked the Olympic reporters who were joining event. According to Russian media, the leopard scratched one of the journalists on the hand and bit another on the knee.

Putin’s deed was not something random as the leopard was chosen to be the mascot of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics whose Opening Ceremony kicked off last Friday.

“I love animals, I seem to have an affinity for them. We liked each other,” said the Russian president.
