British Airways Boeing 777 caught fire at Las Vegas McCarran airport

A Boeing 777 operated by British Airways caught fire in Las Vegas on Tuesday right before the take-off from McCarran airport.

The fuselage of the aircraft was engulfed in flames while a black plume of smoke was rising into the air.

The jet was bound for London Gatwick but it suffered what the pilot called “a catastrophic failure” of the left engine on the tarmac. The take-off of flight BA2276 had been cancelled shortly before the blaze emerged.

At the time of the fire outbreak there were 159 passengers and 13 crew members on board. All persons were evacuated but two people got slightly injured, announces airport representatives. The flames have been extinguished quickly by about 50 firemen.
