French high speed TGV train derails during test race killing 5 near Eckwersheim
After the string of attacks that shook Paris and whole world last night, another tragedy hit France as five people have died after a TGV train jumped off the railway during a test run (scroll down for photos).
The high speed train derailed while being tested somewhere in eastern France, according to a message posted on a social network by radio France Blue Alsace.
Agence France Press argues that at least five people died in the accident which happened on a new high-speed line between Paris and Strasbourg, that hadn’t been used before.
The train derailed while passing on a bridge and the cars crashed into the Marne-Rhine canal, according to witness accounts. Pictures snapped at the crash site show smoke coming from the carriages.
The tragedy occurred near the town of Eckwersheim close to Strasbourg.
The effect of the drama was minimized by the fact that there were no passengers in the cars, which according to preliminary information, overturned before coming to a rest.
