Dan Sova placed under house arrest in bribery probe

Magistrates of Romania’s High Court of Cassation and Justice decided to place PSD Senator Dan Sova under house arrest on Friday, in case in which is accused of taking bribes worth 100,000 euros to secure a contract between CET Govora and a law firm. The decision is not final and can be appealed by DNA prosecutors who asked for a preventive apprehension of Sova.

The court’s decision has been already challenged by Dan Sova’s lawyers who consider that no preventive measures against the politician should be enforced.

The politician was detained by anti-corruption prosecutors on Thursday, shortly after country’s Senate approved the DNA’s call for taking him into custody. On the same day, the prosecutors submitted a request with the High Court of Cassation and Justice for Sova’s preliminary arrest.
