Wales and Slovakia clashed in the first match of Group B, played at Matmut Atlantique Stadium in Bordeaux. The Welsh opened the score by Gareth Bale on 10 minutes when Real Madrid star sent its fans into frenzy as he excellently blasted a 30-yard free-kick over the wall and past a confused Matus Kozacik. It was an epic moment as Bale’s success came 21,179 days after Wales’ last goal at a major international tournament!!!

Ondrej Duda netted the equalizer for Slovakia (61′) but 20 minutes later substitute Hal Robson-Kanu closed the scoreboard (81′), sealing a historic debut victory for the Wales.

Probably the most stunning occasion of the match unfolded 3 minutes after the kick-off time when Slovakia’s Marek Hamsik paved his way through the entire Welsh defense and across goalkeeper Danny Ward only to see his shot towards an empty net cleared off the line by a backtracking Ben Davies (who lost the ball to Hamsik in the first place).
