Arriva Train Collides with Milk Tanker in Winsum, The Netherlands

Eighteen people have been wounded on Friday in a train accident in Winsum, the Netherlands. An Arriva train partially derailed after a collision with a truck loaded with milk.

After the collision, the front part of the train derailed while the milk tanker ended up in the ditch. The truck came from a farmyard and collided with the approaching train at an unguarded railway crossing.

Winsum is located about fifteen kilometers north of the city of Groningen. Rail traffic in the area has been restricted for an indefinite period.

The Safety Board has sent a team of investigators to the scene of the accident. The truck driver was meanwhile arrested and taken for questioning to the police station.
